Leicester City Council’s ambition is to build a dynamic local economy working closely with our business community, support agencies and universities. Whether it is creating new workspace at the Gresham, supporting entry-to-employment opportunities for disadvantaged groups, championing Design Season for creative businesses or investing in the public realm and our cultural offer, the council is delighted to work alongside partners at LBF to push the message that the city is back in business and better than ever.
The council has been working hard with partners to raise Leicester’s profile, particularly to support the visitor economy. With so many new hotels opening this year and next, as a city Leicester has both a great opportunity and challenge. The council’s first major destination marketing campaign ‘Uncover the Story’ has captured the imagination and it is now looking forward to the LBF event that reviews progress and charts next steps.
Leicester was hit harder than anywhere else by the pandemic but is bouncing back quickly: the sheer number of new openings in the city centre is testament to that. Footfall is recovering and the pipeline of investor interest, particularly for new residential accommodation, remains very strong. Leicester city centre continues to be transformed with high quality public realm spaces already complete or taking shape at Clock Tower, Horsefair St, Churchgate and Belgrave Gate.
Leicester City Council is hosting several #LBF2021 events, including one focused on enabling sustainable transport for businesses. This event is being delivered in partnership with Leicestershire County Council, and aims to encourage businesses to enable their workforces to make low-carbon travel choices for their commute. These might include cycling to work or using public transport. The event will support businesses to enact these changes, for example by walking them through sign-up to the national Cycle to Work Scheme.
