Property & Construction

Leicester is one of Britain’s most attractive and cost-effective places to develop, own or lease commercial property. With a prime central location, excellent transport links by road, rail and air as well as multi-million-pound regeneration and development planned and in progress, Leicester and Leicestershire is an investment hot spot.

This is excellent news for the property and construction industry and as a result the sector is thriving throughout the supply chain.

There are 3,995 construction businesses in the Leicester & Leicestershire area employing 20,525 people locally. Fourteen per cent of the workforce is female and the good news is that this is on the increase.

The region is witnessing unprecedented development with over £213 million in new infrastructure projects incorporating Leicester Waterside (near to the River Soar in the city) a £70 million energy recovery facility in Charnwood, Magna Park, MIRA Enterprise Zone (Hinckley), East Midlands Gateway development (strategic rail freight interchange) near East Midlands Airport and Everards Meadows.

Localised housing developments schemes are estimated to total £901 million; whilst there is £146 million in public non-housing construction planned and staggering £946 million in commercial construction in the pipeline. The construction industry is set to grow considerably over the next five years and local employers such as Bloor Homes, Westleigh, William Davis, Barratt Developments, Wates, Jelson Holdings, Wilson Bowden and the East Midlands Housing Group set to play a significant in the local future of the sector.
