Branding: making the world a better place

10:00 - 12:00

ScaleUp 360

The morning starts by looking at what we understand by branding, carefully distinguishing it from visual identity. We then turn to the Wild West (!) to understand why branding matters, how it works, and the different components.

Key concepts are touchpoints and the customer journey, so we explore what these mean and then consider how to map these for your own business.

Some of us have more than one brand, of course, so we need to think about how these relate to each other and the pros and cons of linking them.

Much of the morning is then spent discussing how to build, or improve, your own brand. A good place to start is with the work of Simon Sinek and identifying your ‘what’, ‘how’, and ‘why’. We then engage in a deep dive, using a model that is proven to help growing firms revisit their brand.

How to Proactively Sell Your Product / Service

Of course, finding business and new clients is (for most), more important than it has ever been and at the same time, even tougher. Are you struggling to find new clients? Are you (or are you thinking about) reducing your fees to get business? Are more customers ‘ghosting’ you? Are you finding it harder than ever to ‘close’ sales? If you are open to the idea of adapting how you do what you do, and embracing the effort that comes in doing so, (there is no silver bullet), help is at hand.

The Power of Nudge: Improve Leadership Influence with Staff, Clients & Partners

10:00 - 12:00

D2N2 Growth Hub & East Midlands Chamber

At times of rapid change and when supply chains and margins are being challenged, the ability to influence others towards preferred decisions is critical.

The changing landscape has meant there is more emphasis than ever on developing lasting relationships built on trust and mutual benefit, whilst also acknowledging the wider aspects of social value and environmental responsibility. Decisions for some may not always be easy, and their initial choice not in line with your own. Imagine then if you could present the choices to them in such a way that they shared your view and came round to your way of thinking merely by the way you presented the ideas to them, or gave a different choice or perspective?

Nudge (based on the work by Dr Richard Thaler) creates a methodology to enable the design of choices for others in such a way to influence the decisions they make and their reactions to them. Rather than telling, effective influencers “nudge” others in the right direction through how they present different choices. The techniques helps to bring about positive outcomes by minimising the resistance and confrontation associated with telling, by helping groups and individuals to willingly make the “right” choice.

Marketing: identifying the wants and needs of your customers

14:00 - 17:00

ScaleUp 360

We start with a quick discussion of what we mean by marketing – and, as well as learning that it is not the same thing as promotion, distinguish it from related activities such as sales and branding.

The rest of the morning is devoted to explaining how we draft a marketing plan. To do this, we follow the CREATE/VALUE framework for Marketing, which sets out the:

  • context in which your organisation is operating

  • results you are seeking to achieve

  • execution that this demands, in terms of strategy and tactics

  • assignments both internal and external this requires

  • tests to put in place as you work on the campaign

  • evaluation at the end to learn lessons for the future.
